Dear brother Paul;

Good point!  smiley  I just like the idea of being able to mobile more with my pc, even having it on my lap as I write from the top.   lol!  Seriously, I am leaning toward a Dell, though they have been getting rigid reviews lately, they're still a good pc manufacturer.

Do they now have remote for printing, for example, or do I need to wire my laserjet to the port?

Bornagain, have you noticed that sister Ivy is laughing at us?  You or me?  lol!

undecided hmmmmm..

God bless you, bro!

Bob laptops can do the same or maybe more than desktops, don't worry you won't be needing wires.  wink

Bornagain;

Check out sister Ivy's last post lol!  Everytime I see that smilie face it reminds me of her!   afro

ahem! Anyway, I digress.

There is another program linked to ccc that provides free antivirus for your pc.  I forgot the name.  It seems they provide a minimum virus scan and clean but you have to pay to get the full scan.

Do  you know them and what is it called?

Thanks!

AVG free is the best anti virus software out there, like I said NEVER PAY because there is no need to.

Okay, I know I am one week late and I haven't been around as of late but someone encouraged me today and they are always here so I thought I would log on and maybe see what has been going on.

PC's- I have to agree here laptops are the way to go. I have a laptop with dual core and 2Gb of ram an a 120Mb hard drive. Of course it is for work and I have several development suites on it and all kinds of network management programs. A laptop with a dual core processor and 1Gb of ram and 80Gb hard drive should actually last for quite a while. I am a diehard Dell user. I have tried other laptops and I was never as satisfied as I am with my Dell. I even dropped one while it was on from about 4 feet onto the carpet and it was fine! I don't recommend trying that but I was quite happy that it survived.

As far as AV goes while I am a proponent of free software for home I only use purchased software for business and church. One of the reasons is liability, the other is because I fell that if you like something you should pay for it. What if our bosses decided that we should work for free? Not a pleasant thought is it? Any one that is willing to produce a product would like to see some kind of recompense for their work.

Just my two cents

Actually Dad, it's a dual core DUO. so that's like 2X better.

Could try going to "my computer" >>>>>>>>>>> right click it, then select properties, then tools then tick both boxes for a disc check error then restart your computer. You also may see disc defragment on this same page.

Dear Bornagain;

We gave my bro in law a laptop.  He is taking an adult class for those who have never used a pc.  He got excited and purchased a program for $50.00 that will protect his laptop from viruses.

Man!  Right after I downloaded the free software you recommended here at Gather.   angry

Its some sort of Spyware something.  His teacher asked him never to do that again.  Because we learned that the program is a scam.  (They have a bunch of mispells on their online instructions and all)

My question.  Is Spyware a bad thing?  It seems to me that this spyware spies on your info on the pc so why would anyone want to install anything that has to do with spyware?  I won't install anything that has the words spyware, spyprotect, spybob, etc..

Thank you and God bless you, Paul.
